Stages of Recovering from Facelift Surgery

Recovering from facelift surgery is a gradual process, and this process is best described in stages. It usually takes a full year to recover, but if done properly it will go smoothly and with minimal inconvenience. Stage One Resting is of primary importance during the first week of recovery; however, this does not mean you should be confined to bed for the entire time. You should be able to move around within 48 hours after surgery. Common symptoms are fatigue and nausea (usually due to pain medication) as well as swelling and bruising on the face (due to surgery). You may also feel stiffness and soreness in the neck, ears, and face, but if you take your medication as prescribed by the surgeon the discomfort should be minimal. Remember that even though you can move around, activities should remain light. Stage Two Bruising and swelling normally occurs on one or…

Maintenance After A Nose Job

Men and women who see me for a “nose job,” or rhinoplasty, here in Montreal are often surprised to learn that the results require some maintenance in order to ensure they last as long as possible. Rhinoplasty procedures vary and as a result the maintenance work and recovery time also varies. Major procedures require much more post-surgical maintenance than smaller ones, such as a procedure where the nose has to be broken. Small procedures, such as minor changes to the nasal septum and cartilage, will require less maintenance work and recovery will be faster. The tip of the nose and nostrils require less post-surgical care and recover much more quickly due to its elasticity. Therefore with proper care, you should be able to enjoy a speedy recovery. Post-Surgical Maintenance Difficulty breathing through the nose is a common side effect of a rhinoplasty procedure. Patients are advised to breathe through the…

Labiaplasty Aftercare

In 2013 the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found that over 5000 women had labiaplasty performed, a 44 percent increase from the previous year. Many women are concerned about the recovery process once the procedure has been performed, but there shouldn’t be too much to be concerned about as the recovery process is similar to that associated with any minor surgery. It is normal for patients to experience mild discomfort after a labiaplasty procedure (not unlike other cosmetic surgeries), and this should not last beyond the first few days after surgery. In order to minimize the discomfort, the following steps can be taken: Use ice packs to control the swelling Take regular sitz baths to keep the vaginal area clean; you can also use baby wipes, but avoid wiping. Pat instead. Sleep with a pillow below your buttocks Take the necessary ointments and antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor…

How To Exercise After A Thigh Lift

A thigh lift (or thighplasty) is a cosmetic surgical procedure whos aim is to remove excess skin, fat, and tissue from the legs to give it a more toned appearance. It is a good alternative to exercise and dieting, but you need to be certain that it is in fact right for you. You also need to be aware of your responsibilities once the procedure has been performed. Generally, strenuous exercise is not permitted until at least 4-6 weeks after surgery. Even then, your body still may not have fully recovered. This is why it is important to listen to and follow the advice of your physician who would have intimate knowledge of your physical condition. After approximately two weeks, light exercises are permissible but this must be in accordance with the post-surgery guidelines laid out by your physician. The following are suggestions of what type of exercises might be…

How Soon Is Too Soon To Undergo A Mommy Makeover?

We all followed Kate Middleton’s journey on the road to motherhood, and now that the baby is born we still adore her just as we did before. Her hair and her choice of maternity clothes all set fashion trends, and through the camera lens it looks as if she never even had a baby. We may believe that she and other female celebrities instantaneously return to their pre-pregnancy bodies after successful child-bearing/rearing, but the reality is that it takes time for any woman to return to such a state. Why Have a Mommy Makeover? Pregnancy causes women to have excess skin in the lower abdomen, and some women also complain of having breasts that “sag.” Despite exercise and dieting, these problems still persist even after they have returned to their pre-baby weight. A mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic surgical procedures such as abdominoplasty (surgery on the lower abdomen),…
