Fat. We all have it, and we all try our hardest to get rid of it. Even while watching what you eat and exercising regularly, those last few pounds still won’t come off for many of us. Dr. Fouda Neel performs liposuction in Montreal to reduce these areas of unwanted fat for men and women looking to enhance their body contours beyond what diet and exercise can achieve.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries in North America. Many people choose this procedure to refine certain areas that have not responded to healthy eating and consistent exercise. We commonly treat many areas with lipo at our Montreal clinic:

  • Abdomen (belly)
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Chin and neck
  • Upper arms

Because of its versatility, Dr. Fouda Neel often combines liposuction with other aesthetic surgery procedures to enhance overall results. It can be part of a tummy tuck, facelift, or breast reduction when fat removal will refine and enhance the results.

Am I a candidate for liposuction?

Liposuction is not a preferred treatment for weight loss. It should only be performed on patients who have a stable body weight. If you are in good health, a non-smoker, and have realistic expectations about the outcome of your procedure, you are probably a good candidate for liposuction.

How is liposuction performed?

We all have two layers of fat in our bodies: deep fat and superficial fat. During a liposuction procedure, Dr. Fouda Neel makes tiny incisions at the treatment areas. He then inserts a hollow stainless steel tube called a cannula into the layer of deep fat. He then moves the cannula in and out to break up the fat cells and suction the fat out of the body.

Are there medical uses for liposuction?

Yes. In addition to sculpting body contours, Dr. Fouda Neel uses liposuction to help with a variety of medical conditions:

  • Benign fatty tumours (lipomas)
  • Gynecomastia (i.e., the development of fatty breast tissue in men)
  • Lipid disturbances where fat collects disproportionately in certain parts of the body (lipodystrophy syndrome)

What are the benefits of liposuction?

Besides removing excess fat from your problem areas, liposuction does 2 major things:

  • Enhances your body’s natural contours — With less fat in certain areas, you will be amazed at how incredible you look.
  • Improves your overall health — Removing stubborn pockets of fat from the body leads to better wellbeing.

What is liposculpture?

Liposculpture is another name for VASER Hi Def®, a type of liposuction that uses ultrasound energy to break up the targeted fat and makes it easier to remove. This advanced technology can create more precise, defined results in areas such as the abdominal muscles, upper arms, and hips.

What can I expect after the procedure?

  • You will feel groggy from the anesthesia/sedation you received prior to your liposuction surgery. Arrange for someone to drive you home.
  • You will experience swelling, bruising or pain – This is completely normal, and it will dissipate after about a week.
  • You will likely need to wear a compression garment on the part of the body that was treated to keep the skin tight.
  • You may need to take antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection, if you are prone to skin infections.

Recovery time varies from person to person, but most people report that they are ready to return to work within a few days.

How long do results last?

Liposuction is permanent if you take care of yourself. Once the fat cells are removed, they do not grow back. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle, the remaining fat cells will not get bigger.

How much does liposuction cost?

The price for a liposuction procedure depends on several factors, including the size and number of areas being treated, the specific areas themselves, and whether it is combined with other aesthetic surgery. Visit our Liposuction Costs page for more information.
