Neck Lift

The effects of aging can cause the skin around our necks to loosen and sag. Although you cannot stop the aging process, Dr. Fouda Neel can reverse its effects through a neck lift procedure in Montreal. For people who are still pleased with the overall appearance of their face but wish to improve the look of their neck, this is the right surgery for you.

What is a neck lift?

A neck lift is a cosmetic surgery that can correct jowls, loose skin, abnormal contours, muscle banding, the appearance of “turkey neck,” and a double chin. Moreover, this procedure can remove fatty deposits from under the chin and create a tauter, smoother looking neck.

Neck lifts are often paired with other facial rejuvenation surgeries such as a facelift, brow lift, eyelid surgery and lip lift or augmentation. When you meet with Dr. Fouda Neel to discuss your neck lift, he will advise you on whether other surgeries should be done to complement your overall facial harmony.

What happens during a neck lift procedure?

Prior to your surgery, you will be given anesthesia for your comfort. During the procedure your surgeon will make tiny incisions either behind your ears or under your chin. Excess fat and skin is removed through these incisions and muscles are tightened before the skin is pulled taught and the incisions are sutured.

Neck lifts can be done with liposuction instead of surgical excision, as either technique will remove the excess fat and tissue that creates the dreaded “turkey neck”, double chin, and other similar problems.

What is the recovery process like for this type of surgery?

Like any cosmetic surgery, you may experience some discomfort as you heal. Everyone recovers at their own pace but it is recommended that you take 1-2 weeks off work to ensure that you are healing properly.

You will be given prescription pain medications to alleviate any pain you may be feeling and it is important that you spend time recuperating in bed and avoid strenuous activities. In the week following your surgery, you should wear loose fitting shirts that button at the front as you may have a hard time pulling clothing over your head. If you notice any bruising or swelling in the first post-op days, this is normal and you need not panic.

Who is a good candidate for a neck lift?

In order to be considered for any surgery, you will first have to meet with Dr. Fouda Neel for a consultation. He will explain the neck lift procedure in detail and discuss your medical history. You should disclose any medications you are currently taking as some will need to be ceased before surgery.

Generally, if you are in good health and a non-smoker, you will be a good candidate for a neck lift. If you are a smoker you will have to quit approximately two weeks prior to your surgery and it is imperative that you remain smoke-free as your recover. Smoking delays the healing process and you don’t want anything to get in the way of your improved neck.
