Facial Liposuction

Watching what you eat and exercising may not be enough to give you the appearance you desire. No matter how well balanced your diet is or how much you workout, the contours of your face may not improve. The roundness and prominence of certain facial features may require outside help to allow them to look the way you’d like. For this, Dr. Fouda Neel recommends facial liposuction at his Montreal practice.

What is facial liposuction?

Facial liposuction is a procedure that is often done in concurrence with neck and chin liposuction. This procedure is done to remove localized fatty deposits in the face and the undersurface area of the neck and chin. Facial liposuction is often done around the cheeks and in front of the ears to create better contours.

This type of liposuction removes abnormal fatty deposits and the effects of aging such as plumper, rounder cheeks. It is often performed on patients who have recently lost a large amount of bodyweight but their faces remain fleshy.

Why is facial liposuction performed with neck and chin liposuction?

Because of the positioning of the neck and chin in relation to the entire face, in some patients facial liposuction simply isn’t enough to remove all excess fatty deposits.

Everyone carries their weight differently and when you meet with Dr. Fouda Neel for your initial consultation, he will evaluate your skin and the existing contours of your face to determine if you will require neck and chin liposuction to complement your facial liposuction procedure. You may be a candidate for non-surgical fat reduction with BELKYRA® injections. Normally, most patients will ask for their chins and necks to be worked on as well when they are getting a facial procedure done.

How is this procedure performed?

Liposuction is a common procedure that is safe, quick and easy to recover from. Patients are given anesthesia (usually local but other options can be discussed) before one or two tiny incisions are made beneath the chin or behind the ears. Then, a small instrument called a cannula will be inserted to remove the excess fat from the area creating newly sculpted contours. The tiny incisions are then sutured, thus, ending the procedure.

What is the recovery process like?

You will need to visit Dr. Fouda Neel a few days to a week after your surgery to ensure that you are healing nicely. Immediately following your procedure you will need to wear a supportive chin strap and bandages to keep your face elevated.

It is normal to experience swelling and bruising for the first 1-2 weeks post-surgery and if you find yourself in pain, Dr. Fouda Neel can prescribe painkillers to help alleviate your discomfort. Some patients find that the pain is so minimal following facial liposuction that they are able to mollify it with over-the-counter pain medication.

It is recommended that you take a week before resuming your everyday activities and stay home from work for at least 4-5 days following your procedure. If you must return to work in the days right after your facial procedure use extreme caution so as to avoid bleeding. Simple functions like talking and eating may prove difficult in the immediate days following your liposuction but once the swelling and bruising subsides these difficulties will disappear.
