Laser Hair Removal

Pulsed Light Permanent Hair Reduction

Permanent Hair Removal Montreal

Unwanted hair can appear everywhere from our faces to our arms. People generally want smooth, hair-free areas of their body and cannot get those results from simply shaving or waxing. Laser hair removal at our Montreal clinic provides an optimal solution to get rid of unwanted hair.

What is laser hair removal?

This medical procedure uses a laser to rid you of unwanted hair. Laser hair removal makes uses of an intense but safe pulsating beam of light to incur destruction to your hair follicles impending potential hair growth. The laser’s heat is powerful enough to damage your hair follicles without hurting your skin and causing trauma to your epidermis.

Laser hair removal can treat the following areas:

  • Legs
  • Upper lip
  • Underarms
  • Chin
  • Bikini line

Advancements in technology allow us to treat most areas where unwanted hair grows except for the eyelids. The hair in that area is too fine and grows too close to your eyes making it almost impossible to have laser treatment there.

Some patients are apprehensive about laser hair removal. Dr. Fouda Neel will discuss every aspect of the procedure with you during your consultation to put you at ease and help you understand what is involved.

What happens during a laser hair removal session?

Prior to your laser hair removal treatment, your hair may need to be trimmed. Subsequently, the laser equipment will be altered to the level of thickness, colour, and location of the hair that is to be removed. You will be asked to wear protective eye gear as a precaution because the laser does use a high light source. A cooling gel will be applied to the outer layers of your skin to add necessary protection and aid the laser as it penetrates. Finally, a pulse of light will be administered for several minutes to the area being treated.

You may be given anti-inflammatory creams or ice packs to place on the treated area once the procedure is finished. You may experience some discomfort directly following your treatment but this is temporary and the ice and creams will help.

How do I prepare for this procedure?

Before experiencing laser hair removal there are certain steps to take to ensure your procedure goes smoothly.

  • Do not pluck, wax, or have electrolysis for six weeks prior to your treatment because you will need your hair follicles’ roots intact to have them removed via laser.
  • Stay out of the sun as much as you can in the six weeks that precede your laser hair removal. Over-exposure to the sun can make these treatments less effective because the laser cannot properly penetrate your skin.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

In most cases, laser hair removal permanently stops unwanted hair from growing. However, it can take up to 10 sessions to achieve full results. To truly damage all functional hair follicles, sessions should be at least 4-6 weeks apart.
