Tips For Fast Recovery After Breast Augmentation

Each of my Montreal breast augmentation patients will heal at a unique rate. There are many factors that can affect this healing time such as general health of the patience, skill of the surgeon, and the extent of work performed, but in the end much of it comes down to genetics and how well the patient followed their aftercare instructions. There are a few things that every patient can do to help speed the process along, however.

Breast Augmentation

These tips are in no way meant to replace your specific doctor’s advice but rather to be used in conjunction with to help shorten your recovery time.

Preparing for Surgery

During the last couple of weeks before your procedure, there are a few things you can do to help prepare your body:

  1. Stop smoking:
  2. Nicotine has a large impact on the body’s ability to get oxygen and nutrients to where they are needed most. In order to ensure your body can heal efficiently, stop smoking at least two weeks before your procedure.

  3. Eat less salt:
  4. A high sodium diet causes excess fluid retention that can extend and exacerbate swelling following surgery. Cut back your sodium intake to 1500mg a day or less up to two week before your surgery in order to improve your recovery time.

  5. Consult your doctor:
  6. There are many common medications that you may be taking that do not mix well with surgery. Be sure to ask your doctor if you should stop taking any of your prescriptions before undergoing this type of procedure. Be completely honest and tell your surgeon about every medication you are on in order to avoid complications.

After Surgery Care

You will be provided with very specific guidelines on how to care for your breasts during recovery, what medications to take to speed healing or reduce the risk of infection and when to follow up with your surgeon. Follow these after care instructions to the letter in order to see the best possible results.

Additionally, many patients find that certain supplements and natural remedies help to increase the speed of their healing following cosmetic procedures. Some of these supplements include:

  • Arnica Montana:
  • A flowering plant, arnica montana has been used as a natural pain remedy for centuries. The root and flowers can help to reduce swelling, bruising, and pain associated with surgery.

  • Bromelain:
  • These protein-digesting enzymes extracted from pineapples works as a natural anti-inflammatory and helps to alleviate swelling.

  • Selenium:
  • This mineral is also used as an anti-inflammatory and to speed wound healing.

  • Vitamin C:
  • Also known as ascorbic acid, Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant to help support the immune system during healing.

  • Vitamin A:
  • Made of fat soluble compounds, Vitamin A helps to prevent infection and speed up recovery.
